  • X-Ray

    BLVS has a state of the art radiograph machine which is portable, wireless, and digital. We use it on a variety of cases from broken bones in small animals to determining if a bull will return to work or if he has an untreatable joint infection. To our knowledge, BLVS is the only clinic that has this type of xray machine in the area (Southern AR, East Texas, &/or SE OK). We are able to take xrays on farm!

  • Ultrasound

    We have an ibex Evo ultrasound with multiple probes. The ultrasound is an extremely valuable piece of equipment because it is a non-invasive way to “see” into the animal. We use our ultrasound for a variety of purposes including pregnancy determination, further evaluation of a colic, and liver biopsy collection in ruminants.

  • Mobile Surgery Suite & ET Lab

    BLVS has a mobile trailer which is used for 3 different purposes.

    1) We use it as clinic for exams when we are on farms

    2) It can be used for small animal surgeries such as spays, neuters, or would management. All of the equipment on the mobile clinic trailer is similar to what a traditional brick & mortar practice would have in their surgery suite.

    3)The BLVS trailer can also be set up and used as a mobile embryo lab.

  • Portable Hydraulic Tilt Chute

    Our purple portable hydraulic tilt chute was one of the first ones to be made. We use our chute for routine cattle work as well as trimming feet. Since our chute is portable, we can bring it to you as long as you have safe working facilities.

  • iSTAT Blood Machine

    The iSTAT blood machine allows us to evaluate specific blood values while in the field. The results take less than 10-15 minutes. The iSTAT results help to initiate proper treatment is started sooner rather than later.

  • Serum Amyloid A (SAA) Test

    Serum Amyloid A (SAA) is an early and sensitive blood biomarker for tissue injury, inflammation and infection. Running this simple 10-minute stall-side blood test enables us to have real time information regarding the severity of an infection & allows us to effectively monitor the current treatment without leavening the farm. The test is mostly used on horses.

  • Wellness & Routine Care

    BLVS is focused on providing wellness & routine care to all species because it is the healthiest option for your pet/livestock. Routine care includes but is not limited to a physical exam, vaccinations, a fecal, appropriate deworming, and dental care. It is much cheaper to ensure your pets/livestock have yearly preventative care than it is to treat a sick one.

  • Emergencies

    We are available for emergencies 24/7 for our current clients/patients. A current client has had routine care (physical exam, vaccinations, etc) provided for their pet/livestock within the last year by BLVS.

  • Breeding Soundness Exam (BSE)

    A BSE is more than a “semen check”. A BSE is a detailed evaluation which looks at the male animal as a whole, not just at his semen. A BSE includes a distance physical exam, evaluation of conformation, testicle size measurement, and a microscopic exam of both semen motility and morphology. All of these findings are documented on our BSE sheet which you get to keep. We recommend a BSE at least yearly on all breeding males. Also, annually bulls should be Trich tested (a highly contagious venereal disease causing abortions).

    On average 10% of bulls will fail their BSE, often based on morphology findings. BLVS bases our BSE parameters off of the guidelines established by The Society of Theriogenology.

  • Pregnancy Determination

    Pregnancy determination can be done manually or with an ultrasound in most species. We have used an ultrasound to “preg check” cattle, horses, water buffalo, sheep, goats, pigs, and dogs, though it could be used on many other species.

  • Spays & Neuters

    We do spays and neuters in many species including dogs, cats, and pigs.

  • Herd Health Consultations

    Components of a herd health consult can be as basic or as detailed as you would like. Your options to include in your consult are evaluations of your breeding season, nutrition program, farm management, &/or vaccination protocols. BLVS’ goal is to make you more money than the consult cost.

  • Equine Odontoplasty ("Float")

    Odontoplasty should only be done by a licensed veterinarian and is more than just “floating” teeth!! It is a term used to describe the procedure of removing sharp points on the teeth to achieve occlusal equilibration (aka chew better).

    BLVS does a brief physical exam (PE) before giving sedation. Once the horse is sedated per AAEP recommendations, a detailed oral exam is performed along with an evaluation of other structures such as the TMJ and sinuses. All of the findings from the PE and oral exam along with any corrections made during the odontoplasty are documented on a sheet you get to keep!

    Any horse that is under 5 years old, should have their teeth floated every 6 months. Once a horse is 5 years old, their teeth should be floated at least once per year as long as they have received yearly routine dental care provided by a veterinarian.

  • Artificial Insemination (AI)

    BLVS offers AI in many species such as cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, and dogs.

  • Bovine Embryo Transfer (ET)

    BLVS offers flushing and freezing of embryos along with fresh or frozen transfers. Our clients have the option to use their own recips or JS Cattle Company recips.
